Romantic lyrics, a super catchy riff, and an innovative video that made the song so memorable.
“Take On Me” had all the ingredients for becoming one of the most beloved tracks of the 80s. The audience quite literally took it on, and it turned into a-ha’s signature song.

A couple of decades later, this Brooklyn-based band decided to give the song a little swing.
Lake Street Drive are not only great musicians, they’re also dedicated to saving the planet.

Lake Street Dive is a multi-genre band, whose story began in 2004 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
The band was named after a street with many dive bars in Minnesota and they tour in North America, Australia and Europe. Still, these musicians are dedicated to offsetting the carbon emissions of their tours every year.

That’s why they encourage their fans to walk, bike or use a subway to get to their shows.
And for those who need to fly, there’s an option to offset the travel with Cool Effect. Cool Effect is all about uniting people in a mission of reducing the carbon pollution that causes climate change. Lake Street Dive’s partnership with Cool Effect has been going on for years, and the band supports several environmental projects, like Jacunda Forest Reserve, Sichuan Biogas Digester and the Costa Rica Renewable Energy Wind Turbines project.

You’ll find more information on the band’s official website.
We surely believe that their 126,000 Instagram followers and 107,000 subscribers to their YouTube channel can understand the importance of mitigating our footprint.

“Take On Me” has a challenging chorus, and it’s believed to be among the hardest-to-sing in pop history.
However, it wasn’t a problem for Lake Street Dive. The band’s members have all pursued an education in music. They can all sing and play an instrument, and some of them have parents involved in the world of music.

Here, Lake Street Dive took an interesting approach with a-ha’s biggest hit.
The Norwegian synth-pop band first released the song in 1984, but it took two videos and three releases to chart in the United Kingdom. In 1985, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and it’s the only a-ha song that met with that level of commercial success.

It wasn’t easy to make an excellent cover, but Lake Street Dive decided to completely ditch the 80s sound of it.
Instead, they’ve built the song around a fantastic trumpet solo, and the groove they gave it will make you believe that the song was meant to be played that way.
All the band members are excellent singers!

We love that all five of them are singing, and that blend of voices makes their rendition unforgettable.
The parts when they all do vocal harmonies together are completely awesome. It’s been filmed in the A.V. Club in 2017, and we love everything about it.

From the opening drum riffs to the trumpeter’s enthusiasm and the look of pure joy on the keyboardist’s face, everyone is having a great time!
As a group, Lake Street Dive has released seven studio albums so far.

These guys mean some serious business, and they said that they want their music to sound like “the Beatles and Motown had a party together.”
What a lovely idea! With each video bringing them closer to that party, let’s just say that this one was viewed more than eight million times on YouTube.
