One of Bruce Springsteen’s most famous songs is his soulful hit “I’m On Fire.”
It was released in 1985 and peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles charts. It became so popular that are now so many covers of the song that Spotify offers a special playlist featuring only covers!
Even so, singer Matt Andersen put his own spin on the song in this awesome performance.

As Andersen shows in this clip, there’s always room to improve songs—even the ones that are already great.

Andersen is a well-known performer in his own right, and the covers he does have become very popular throughout the years.
His voice is incredible and his falsetto is ethereal—it is beautiful, delicate, floating and very emotional. One can feel his joy while listening to him because he gets completely lost in his music.

You can hear that he means every note and his voice is what soul music should actually sound like.

In the beginning, Andersen takes some time with his guitar and strums a very nice introduction.
It makes you look forward to his singing even more— and when his voice finally comes out, it is pure feeling. The original song will always have a special place in our hearts, but Andersen did a first-class performance using only his voice and his guitar. His musical skills and his voice are sure to give anybody chills, even those who are diehard fans of The Boss.
The soul in this performance is coming out of his pores—we can only imagine what it would be like to see him live!

This performance is good enough to make you feel like you’re on fire just by listening to it!
The way Matt delivers this is so authentic, and he truly makes the music come to life. We get the sense that every time he plays this song, he does it just a little bit differently—after all, his style seems so loose and spontaneous. He has a brilliant musical style and we’re guessing even Springsteen himself would enjoy this version. In all, the performance is phenomenal. It is down to earth, real and dreamy, calm and stormy, all at once.
As it turns out, Andersen has had an impressive career since 2002.

Andersen is a blues guitarist and singer-songwriter from Perth-Andover, Canada.
His musical career began in 2002 with the band Flat Top, though he has done an impressive number of live performances worldwide. He has toured with Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Gregg Allman, Beth Hart and many other rock legends, and he even won two 2009 East Coast Music Association (ECMA) Awards.

Since this video was uploaded in 2011, it has earned more than two million views—and we can definitely see why!
Seeing musicians like Andersen play is sure to give faith to anybody who thinks that modern music has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Although guitar-based music isn’t as popular as it once was, Andersen proves that musicians like Springsteen are still inspiring new generations of singer-songwriters. We’re guessing there are a lot more people out there like Andersen who take their cues from The Boss… but almost nobody can do his songs as much justice as he does.
