There’s no shortage of great performers on The Voice, but the competition always gets heated for country singers.
If you’ve watched the show for a long time, you know that judge Blake Shelton has won the most seasons of the show compared to all the other judges.
You probably also know that Shelton’s specialty is country… needless to say, Shelton tries to snap up every country singer who comes down the line and every single one of the other judges tries to stop him!
Though this is a pretty predictable pattern by this point, it never gets old watching it!
Like every other episode, this moment begins with a contestant walking out while all the judges’ backs are turned.
The performer in question is Andrew Jannakos, who starts his song accompanied by an acoustic guitar. After a moment, it becomes clear that he’s singing “Beautiful Crazy” by Luke Combs.
What’s also clear right away is that Jannakos has a naturally soulful voice for country music, one that will definitely be a threat going forward. With that in mind, the other judges act fast.
The first to push their button is judge Adam Levine!
Still, right on the heels of that push is judge Kelly Clarkson getting in on the action as well.
As she turns around, she sees that Jannakos is surprisingly young to have such a soulful voice! He continues his song as the other judges keep nodding their heads along.
Although Jannakos’s voice is definitely young and a little bit unpolished, he still has a performance that wows the judges—and Shelton is shut out from pushing the button because his team is already full!
Once everyone is turned around, it’s time for the negotiating to begin.
First up is Clarkson, who makes her pitch based around the fact that Jannakos’s voice is somewhat old school.
Regardless, she says that he still presents as young and part of the “new school” of country, which is an awesome balance. Above all, she desperately wants a chance to coach a male country artist!
After that, Levine tries to pitch the fact that going with Clarkson would essentially be playing into Shelton’s hands… which is hard to follow, exactly. Regardless, it’s clear that both of the judges desperately want his talents.
After a few more moments, it’s time for a decision.
Because both judges showed a lot of interest, it’s very hard for Jannakos to make a choice.
It’s about at that point that Shelton starts pitching in as well… and telling Jannakos that he should definitely join Clarkson’s team. At this point, Levine’s comments are starting to make a little more sense! After a little more deliberation, Jannakos is ready to make a choice.
No matter how unlikely it may seem… Jannakos decides to go with Adam Levine! Needless to say, this is one of the best country performances we’ve seen in a while—and the judges clearly agreed! We’re definitely going to see some great things from Jannakos in the future.
